Honest and Fair – Lupe’s Petal Ideas
Honest and fair daisy petal is the first trait in the Girl Scout Law. It is Lupe’s line of the law and matches the light blue petal of the Girl Scout Daisy flower. Most of our daisy scouts knew what being honest and fair meant. These are words that they have heard before in school and from home. While our girls really focused on other people needing to be honest and fair, they needed some help seeing that it is important for them to be honest and fair as well. We dive into some excellent and easy honest and fair daisy petal ideas.
As you plan for your meetings, keep in mind that the meetings should be girl led as much as possible. While the girl’s Daisy binder doesn’t offer many options for choices for the girls, we found that having 4 – 6 different ideas and letting the girls pick the ones that they wanted to try really kept the meetings girl led at this young age. The girls picked the different activities that they wanted to try while working towards earning a petal.
Our agenda below follows the Daisy petal requirements to make earning this petal easy and quick. We include six additional honest and fair daisy petal activities to help keep this girl scout meeting girl-led. Read on to learn our easy framework for how to earn girl scout Daisy petals, specially the honest and fair daisy petal.
Daisy Honest and Fair Activities
This is our sample agenda for our Daisy Girl Scout meeting on Lupe’s petal – honest and fair. We loved to take a peek at the next petal we planned to earn while planning out this petal. Why? Because we could combine 3 – 4 activities that we wanted to try and let our girls pick the one or two they would like to do. This helped us to keep our Daisy meetings more girl-led throughout the year. Be sure to take a peek at our post about Sunny’s petal – friendly and helpful.
At the end of each meeting we would preview our next petal and have the scouts discuss the activities they may want to try. Bringing in pictures was super helpful and gave the girls a focus and way to sort out the activities. They would move the pictures around and create us a pile of ones we like and ones we don’t. Then we could plan our next meeting based off of the girls’ recommendations and even reach out to parents to help with the planning.
Gathering Activity
We set up our room with a main communication table for parents. At this table we kept a copy of our agenda, so parents could see what we would work on today. We also had a reminder note so families were able to update their calendar and have a list of anything that would be coming soon. These were great for keeping families informed and engaged. Finally, we used this area to talk with families about any questions they may have.
Our gathering activity was located a bit away from our greeting table. This way the scouts could come in and head to their table while the leaders worked with the parents. We set up the table with everything the scouts would need. For our group, this was color supplies and copies of the flower friends coloring page. The important thing is to plan an activity that your scouts can do independently and if directions are needed, try to offer picture supports for girls not yet reading.
Our scouts love to color. Therefore, we often used the flower color pages from makingfriends.com. There is a coloring page for each of the Daisy Flower Friends and we have linked them in each of our following posts for your ease. These are a great way to let the scouts come in and get started while we answered parent questions and gathered money, forms, etc. We also found that the girls were able to color and chat with little assistance from us. Pro Tip: If you plan to use the coloring pages too, print all at once and save in a folder. This saves you time later!
Lupe’s Story Girl Scouts
We always found that story time was a great time for the girls to eat their snack. So, we tried to keep these simple so that there wasn’t a lot of prep involved. Cheese sticks were a great snack as they go with the story. With snack, this is a great time for the girls to work out dividing the snack in an honest and fair way to practice this skill. Before beginning to read, lay out the snacks and have the scouts figure it out. You could even throw in a trick by adding in one extra snack or one too few and see what the girls do.
The story can be girl led too. Ask the girls if they would like the story read aloud, watch a youtube video (yes, these exist), or even read it themselves (if they can read well enough). Our girls loved being read too, but videos were a nice break in our routine. You could also have the parents, older girl scouts, or even older siblings each take turns reading a story to the girls. We suggest asking families to sign up as a mystery reader for the troop as the girls loved guessing who was coming to read today. It’s a great way to get families involved in your meetings.
Acting out the Story
Our girls loved acting out the stories and retelling them with their Daisy scout friends. This was a great way for the girls to put the story into their own words and representations. Plus we could really see that the girls got the message about being honest and fair. Again, try to keep this girl led! A great idea is to ask the girls at the meeting before how they would like to act out a story so you can prepare the right materials.
Creating the Props
A few options for acting out the story include:
- Masks – keep it simple with pictures of the flower friends glued on paper plates with a string for a necklace.
- Make a script – the girls write the script of the story and then take turns acting it out
- Small groups – have each group act out part of the story for their friends. One group does the beginning, another group the middle, and the third group gets the end of the story.
- Puppets – glue the flower friends to paper bags to make simple puppets.
Let the girls pick the way they would like to act out the story. Then give them time to get creative, making costumes, props and scenery. Be sure to set a time limit and give the scouts reminders as time is ticking down or they will spend the entire meeting making props. Daisy Girl Scouts love creating! Be sure to ask the girls to practice being honest and fair while creating and assigning roles.
Sharing your Story
Once time has run out or the scouts have finished creating, whichever comes first, gather your scouts together. Then enjoy their performance and remember, it’s all about being honest and fair. So if they make mistakes or mess up, that’s okay. This is a great time to talk with the girls about being honest but also being friendly and helpful, which was our next focus petal.
Honest and Fair Daisy Petal Activities
Honest and Fair Craft Ideas
- Making a flower garden – create a physical representation of Lupe. A little blue and green tissue paper or construction paper and a green pipe cleaner plus the girl’s imagination! We love including an honest and fair daisy petal craft idea for the more crafty scouts in your troop. This is a great time to practice sharing supplies fairly too!
- Make an Honesty Bracelet. Start with yarn, string, or a pipe cleaner. Pipe cleaners are easiest for girls with fine motor difficulties. Have your girls string on different colored light blue beads. This is a great way to use up the beads from making your Girl Scout Law necklace. The girls will need to share the supplies fairly with each other. When wearing the bracelet, it will help them to remember to practice honesty throughout their day.
Daisy Honest and Fair Game Ideas
- Play a game with your friends – musical chairs, red light – green light, froggy detective game, doggy – doggy – where’s your bone, etc. Practice being honest when you are out and fair by letting everyone have a turn.
- Show off your dance moves – practice being honest and fair to make sure everyone has a turn to go in the middle of the circle and share a dance move for everyone else to try.
- The Lying Game – bring in one object. Hand the object to the first girl and she says one truth about the object. The second girl adds a truth, repeating the first girls. The third girl adds and repeats. This continues until you get to the end of the group. Then repeat the activity but have each girl tell one lie about the object. The girls should be able to see how much harder it is to remember all the lies. This really helps your girls see the importance of honesty in their lives.
- Truth/Lie Game – girls line up in the middle. You say a fact. If it is true, girls step forward. If it is a lie, girls step backwards. Another idea for those with more space, you could have them run left for a lie and right for the truth. This can help girls to see that their truths may not be everyone else’s too, while other truths are the same for everyone.
Girl Scouts Honest and Fair Trip Ideas
- Trip to a police station or invite a police officer to your meeting to talk about being honest and fair. This is especially powerful if one of your girls has a parent or relative police office. Plus you’ll want to foster this relationship as you may want to ask them to present again at future Girl Scout meetings.
- Ask one of your scout’s teachers to come in and talk with the girls about being honest and fair. Not only will the girls get a kick out of seeing their teacher outside of school time, but they’ll love learning more about honest and fair with their teacher too.
Ending the Daisy Girl Scout Honest and Fair Meeting
We loved for our scouts to practice the skill outside of our meetings too. We had our girls write down 3 ways that they practiced being honest and fair before our next meeting. Then each girl could share one example of being honest and fair at our next meeting when they receive their light blue petal. This was a great review of the skill.
You can give each girl a special small notebook to record their examples, have them write it on a Lupe piece of paper (light blue paper or a paper with a picture of Lupe) to keep in a folder, or even make a small foldable book to keep track. At the end of their daisy year and earning all their petals, this is a nice reminder of all the work that they have done.

So cute! My “baby” is now a Girl Scout, but I loved reading the Daisies stories to her troop.
Oh my gosh, isn’t it so exciting. They grow up so quickly!
Super cool ideas there. I have bookmarked your article and will definitely use one of them this summer with my kids. Thanks
